Dhaka(01 may): In a remarkable show of youth leadership and environmental commitment, Naimur Hossain has emerged as a leading figure in Bangladesh’s fight against climate change and plastic pollution. Through his role at U-CAN (United Climate Action Network), Naimur has spearheaded the plantation of over 100,000 trees across the country since the platform’s inception in July 2023.
U-CAN, a specialized environmental initiative under SHADOW (Society for Humanity Development Over the World), has quickly gained recognition for its grassroots activism aimed at creating a greener, cleaner Bangladesh. Under Naimur’s leadership, the platform has not only planted trees but also launched community campaigns to reduce plastic use and promote sustainable practices.
Beyond his environmental activism, Naimur balances multiple leadership roles. He currently serves as the President of Leo Club of Dhaka Dynamic One (2024-25), a member of the Rotaract Club of Dhaka Orchid, and a Rover Mate at Golden Eagle Open Air Scout Group. His dedication to community service extends across various fronts, making him a role model for young changemakers in Bangladesh.
Naimur’s remarkable work has not gone unnoticed. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the National Service Award and Community Development (CD) Award in 2023, followed by a second National Service Award and the prestigious Messenger of Peace Award in 2024.
Speaking about his mission, Naimur said, “Every tree we plant is a step towards a better future. Our fight against plastic pollution and climate change needs collective action, and I’m proud to work with so many passionate volunteers across the country.”
With his leadership, U-CAN and SHADOW are creating a wave of positive environmental and social change, inspiring thousands of young people to take action for the planet.
