Dhaka(14 March): Kanan Faysal, a passionate youth organizer and mental health advocate from Bandar Upazila in Narayanganj District, has recently received two prestigious recognitions: the National Service Award from Bangladesh Scouts and the Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) honor from Rotary International. These accolades mark his significant contribution to youth mental health awareness, community service, and leadership development in Bangladesh.
Born on 13 July 2003, Kanan began his journey from humble beginnings, growing up in Narayanganj and gradually evolving into a prominent voice for young people across the country. His dedication to social good, leadership in national youth organizations, and commitment to mental health education have positioned him as a rising changemaker.
Academic Excellence and Leadership from an Early Age Kanan completed his secondary education from BM Union School and College, and went on to pursue his higher secondary studies at Mohammadpur Government College. Currently, he is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Uttara University in Dhaka.
Alongside his academic pursuits, Kanan has always prioritized extracurricular activities and voluntary service. His ability to balance academics and community involvement is a testament to his discipline and commitment to personal growth.
Kanan Faysal has held key leadership roles in various nationally recognized youth organizations. He is the President (2024–25) of the Rotaract Club of Dhaka Orchid, an affiliate of Rotary International that promotes leadership and service among young adults.Former President (2023–24) of the Leo Club of Dhaka Dynamic One, a youth wing under Lions Clubs International.
In these positions, he has led multiple community initiatives ranging from environmental cleanups to mental health campaigns, blood donation drives, and leadership training programs. His ability to motivate youth and execute impactful events has earned him widespread respect within the volunteer community.
Talk Hope: A Vision for Youth Mental Health Perhaps Kanan’s most impactful work has been through the organization “Talk Hope”, where he serves as the Chief Coordinator. Talk Hope is a youth-led movement dedicated to mental health awareness and suicide prevention among adolescents and young adults.
Launched with the goal of making mental health support more accessible, especially in rural and underprivileged communities, Talk Hope has already reached over 30,000 young people through seminars, school and college sessions, online counseling, and awareness drives.
Under Kanan’s leadership, the initiative has created space for open conversations around depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts—issues often considered taboo in conservative societies. He has helped build a team of youth volunteers, peer counselors, and mental health first aiders trained through international platforms.
